Drawing 1, Part 4: Exercise 8

For this exercise, we were asked to make some studies of facial features.

I worked in my sketchbook with a 6B pencil, to sketch the eyes, lips, ears and noses. I used photo for reference.

I quite enjoyed this exercise, and took my time over it. I worked from photos, and it was interesting working in monochrome from colour references! I used a 6B pencil, as I like dark, heavy sketches.

I think the sketches represent the features accurately, even if they are not photo realistic. They are my interpretations.

I enjoyed drawing the eyes the most, and found the ears quite demanding, as the shapes are confusing to me.

  1. Isn’t it interesting to really observe and capture character and expressions? How a tiny detail can create a mood? You have observed really well
